What is a Farmhouse Bedroom?

A farmhouse bedroom is a style that’s focused on the rustic and the handmade. It’s inspired by the homes of the people who were raised in rural areas, where they had to rely on what they could make or grow themselves and where everything was done without modern conveniences.

In a farmhouse bedroom, you’ll find wood paneling and floorboards, natural fibers like wool and cotton, and accents of metal hardware. You might also see exposed beams, large windows with heavy curtains, and shelves filled with books.

Are Farmhouses Going Out of Style?

Farmhouses are a classic look that never goes out of style. They’re the perfect balance of rustic and refined, with their exposed beams and open plan. Farmhouses have been a staple of American life since the early days of our country, so it’s no surprise that they’ve remained popular for generations.

Farmhouses have been around for centuries, but it’s only recently that they’ve gotten such a revamp.

The style has gone from rustic to modern, from country to city—and from wood-paneled walls to sleek glass surfaces. And it’s not just about the layout and decor: the design of farmhouses has changed too. From small cottages to sprawling estates, these homes are built for families of all sizes.

So what makes a farmhouse so appealing? Why do people want to live in them? We think it’s because they’re versatile while still feeling cozy and comfortable, they can be as simple or complex as you want them to be. The best part is, no matter how big or small your space is, there’s probably a farmhouse style out there for you!

How do you decorate a farmhouse-style bedroom?

Start with a bed that has a classic, wooden frame and a neutral color. If you have an area rug in your room, make sure it’s also made of wood. If not, consider buying one. You can add some warmth and luxury with a soft throw blanket or pillows in muted colors.

A farmhouse-style bedroom should be cozy and relaxed, not formal! Don’t feel like you have to go all out with your decorations just because the room is meant to look casual. Keep your accessories minimal and low-key, like rugs and plants. Add some personal touches like pictures from home or family members who live far away on the walls as well as artwork created by yourself or someone close to you. Farmhouse style can be fun if you let it be!

Finally, consider adding lighting fixtures above each side of the bed so that as soon as you wake up in the morning, they’ll give off plenty of natural light!

How do I make my room look like a farmhouse?

Ahhh, the farmhouse look. So cozy and rustic, with a hint of antiquity. It’s no wonder this style has become so popular, it’s basically a dream for anyone who loves the country and wants to bring some of that into their home.

But how do you make your room, especially a bedroom, look like a farmhouse? Here are 12 ideas:

1. Metallic Bed

The first thing you’ll need to do is pick out an amazing metallic bed! This can be hard because there are so many different kinds of metal beds out there. For example, you could go with a sleek chrome or gunmetal finish or opt for something more ornate like bronze or brass.

This bed will give your bedroom that rustic feel, with a hint of glam. The metallic finish on the headboard and footboard adds just the right amount of shine, while providing a beautiful pop of color.

2. Make it a white room

When you think of a farmhouse, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? A white room, right? Well, it’s no coincidence. The walls and ceilings of a farmhouse are usually painted white to reflect light and make the space feel bigger and brighter.

This trick works in any room, but it’s especially helpful in your bedroom. Add some natural elements like wood or stone to complement the white scheme, and you’ll have a cozy retreat for sleeping or just hanging out with friends without feeling overwhelmed by color.

Paint the walls white with an eggshell finish to brighten up the room. If you’re feeling adventurous, go for two coats of paint instead of one—the second coat will really make the difference with this project!

3. Add a Sliding Barn Door

Sliding barn doors are a great way to add elegance and function to your bedroom. They’re also a fun way to add some personality like you’ve transported yourself right into a cozy country cabin.

Here’s how to make one:

1. Measure your door opening and add 1/2″ on either side of the measurement to allow for the thickness of the door.

2. Cut 2 pieces of wood that are slightly wider than the width of your door opening by this same measurement. You’ll use these as rails on each side of the door.

3. Cut 4 pieces of wood that are slightly taller than the width of your door opening by this same measurement. These will be used as stiles on each side of the door.

4. Attach the rails and stiles together with hinges, so that they form an “X” shape when viewed from above (see diagram). Make sure that there is enough space between them for you to get inside!

4. Exposed Wood Furniture

If you’re looking for a farmhouse bedroom that has an exposed wood vibe, then this is the place to be!

Whether it’s your bed, or a nightstand or dresser, exposed wood furniture is the perfect way to give your bedroom the rustic appeal that you’re going for. You can even use it on your walls!

You’ll just need to make sure you have some large pieces of wood that match well with each other (and don’t mind being painted). Then, you’ll want to sand down any rough edges and make sure all surfaces are smooth enough for paint. After that, just pick out some colors and get painting!

5. Bring in Natural Fabrics

Natural fibers are one of the best ways to create a farmhouse-inspired bedroom. You can use them in all sorts of ways, from bedding to rugs, to wall coverings and even window treatments.

If you want a classic look, consider using cotton in natural shades like cream and white. These colors will make your space feel cozy and inviting without being too traditional or boring. If you want something more modern, try using linen or sisal in bright colors like coral and blueberry—these hues will give any space a pop of color without being too loud or overbearing.

Another option is wool blankets made out of sheep’s wool or alpaca fiber (the latter is softer). They’re perfect for cold winter nights when you need an extra layer to keep warm while cuddling under the covers!

6. Add Layers

Pieces like rugs and curtains are great because they add depth to the room, so it doesn’t look like just a bunch of stuff thrown together on the floor. Try mixing different types of rugs together, we love using an area rug beneath the bed for added comfort and warmth, but putting a smaller rug underneath that one for its pattern or texture. You can also add curtains over the windows (or even drapes) if you want more privacy or want to block out sunlight during the day.

7. Vintage Chandelier

This elegant piece of lighting is the perfect way to light up your room and give it an airy, vintage feel. It will instantly transform your space into the kind of room where you want to curl up with a good book or take a long nap in bed.

If you’re worried about how much light this lamp may provide, don’t be! Vintage chandeliers are designed to give off plenty of light without being too bright.

Another benefit of using this type of lighting fixture is that it adds character and style to any space. This can be especially important if you have an older home or want to add some vintage touches to a newer space.

8. Mirrors Everywhere

Farmhouses are known for their use of mirrors, they reflect light and make spaces look larger than they are, which is great for bedrooms. If you have a small bedroom, try hanging a mirror on one wall to make it feel bigger. Or hang a cluster of smaller mirrors over the bed or dresser so that when you turn on the lights in the room, it looks like there are dozens of them! Here are some more tips for adding mirrors…

—      Add a mirror behind your bed so you can see yourself getting ready for work or for bed. This will help you keep track of your hair and makeup throughout the day.

—      Have two large mirrors on opposite walls in the room so that when you stand in front of one mirror, you can see yourself from all sides!

—      Use long strips of mirrors along the walls in an L-shape or around the perimeter of your bedroom to create an illusion of depth and space.

9. Shiplap Walls Or Ceilings

Shiplap walls and ceilings are a beautiful way to add character to your farmhouse bedroom. The look is both rustic and modern, and it works especially well in bedrooms where you want the space to have a cozy feel.

You can add shiplap to any wall or ceiling, it’s just a matter of how much wood you want to show through. For example, if you want more of an accent wall, choose one with lower ceilings and less light coming into the room; this will make it easier for you to see the wood tones in the shiplap.

If you want more of an emphasis on the ceiling, choose a room with high ceilings and lots of natural light coming in; this will help highlight those beautiful natural colors in your shiplap while also making it pop more against the white walls below it!

10. Add Some Greenery

If you’re looking for a way to bring the outdoors in, try adding some greenery to your bedroom. Plants are a great way to add color and texture to your space. If you have a trellis or some other kind of support for a plant, you can even hang it from the ceiling!

You can use plants as a statement piece, or you can simply add them as an accent on your ceiling or wall.

If you’re looking for something more permanent, consider getting some succulents or cacti and planting them in pots that match your room’s decor. You could even use these plants as a headboard!

11. Use Rustic Elements Throughout the Bedroom

Instead of going for a completely rustic look, try adding some pieces here and there. Maybe use wooden accents on the headboard or bedside table. Or add some rope as a drawer pull or attach a metal plate to the wall above your bed as decoration. It won’t take long before these little details start to add up!

12. Brick Wall

Brick walls are a common feature in farmhouse bedrooms. The warm, earthy red tones of brick complement the natural wood of the bedroom, creating a cozy and inviting space.

Brick walls are also easy to work with when it comes to decorating around them. You can paint them or wallpaper them, or hang pictures on them. If you’re looking for something unique and different, try hanging some tapestries on your wall. They’ll add a touch of color to your room and make it feel more homey!
